What Is Magic? (XXII)

The study of magic is not a science, it is not an art, and it is not a religion. Magic is a craft. When we do magic, we do not wish and we do not pray. We rely upon our will and our knowledge and our skill to make a specific change to the world.- Les Grossman, The Magicians

And that's what magic so challenging to learn. Not that the sleights are difficult (some certainly are), but it's the challenge to the ego.

Because craft is learned... by failure. Doesn't "have to be BIG," but that's how we learn craft. By doing it wrong.

And then doing it again. And again. And again.

I have to remind myself of this... a lot. Because a failure you learn from isn't a failure, it's a lesson.

Even though it feels like a failure.

True words Robert. I would add that we learn to fear failure so we don't try as we should.
